Future Heirlooms

Artist-in-Residence Sarah Rodriguez and seven Gallery Fellows created works that reflect artists as storytellers, considering questions such as: What is an heirloom? How do our identity and interpersonal relationships manifest in the significance of an object? Using a variety of techniques, the Fellows created a selection of pieces that present their unique perspectives as they work through the prompts above.

My work is a reflection of the memories I hold from my childhood, spent in my grandparent’s home, as well as the culture that has shaped me. Guided by the vast amount of stories and photographs my family has collected over the years, I seek to recreate the staircase that was a central part of that space, reimagining it through my own lens. By working with diverse materials, I aim to engage more than just the eyes; I want you to feel the art through touch and sound, creating a multisensory experience. To me, an heirloom is more than an object—it’s a living narrative, enriched by the stories we share and the connections we forge with others
